In June 2016, the Chicago Chapter of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals, in cooperation with DePaul University, the Environmental Science and Studies Department, and Gabriel Environmental Services will offer a Hazardous Materials Manager Overview Course.
The course provides a thorough overview of the major topics and concerns in hazardous materials management, which helps prepare environmental managers to take the CHMM Exam. In addition, many environmental professionals take the course to satisfy training requirements, enhance their breadth of competence in the profession, or get up-to-date information. This is the award-winning course first developed by Chicago Chem Consultants that has been offered through ACHMM and AHMP in Chicago since 1988.
A copy of the Managing Hazardous Materials textbook will be forwarded to each registrant upon receipt of the course fee. The text is a useful study guide for the Exam and a handy desk reference.
Groups of three or more from the same organization receive a 10% discount.
AHMP attendees for recertification receive a 25% discount.

Environmental professionals who need up-to-date information to make informed decisions, and who want credentialed recognition that they have attained a high level of education, experience, and competence.

This course is taught by approximately 25 practicing professionals in the field of hazardous materials management. They have been drawn from business, industry, and governmental agencies. Most are CHMM-certified.
Continuing Education Units/ CHMM Recertification Points
Participants in the Overview Course will earn 2.2 Continuing Education Units (CEU's) and a Certificate of Course Completion from DePaul University Department of Environmental Science and Studies. AHMP members who want to be recertified can earn 1.5 AHMP Recertification Points, and receive a 25% discount for the overview course.
Application Requirements for the CHMM Examination
The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management reviews applications to take the Examination. Applicants who meet any one of the following standards are eligible:
Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (ACHMM)
The Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) is a professional society dedicated to fostering continuing education, peer group interaction, and technological stimulation. The Alliance offers nationally recognized certification for hazardous materials managers who complete specific experience requirements and pass the CHMM Examination.
Members of the Alliance come from, and speak to, the following four corners of hazardous materials management:
Cancellation Policy
To cancel, call (773) 325-7445 or email Margaret Workman. Individuals who cancel at least ten days prior to the program start date will be eligible for a refund of the course fee, less $85 for the textbook. Individuals who cancel within ten days prior to the program start date will be liable for the full fee. However, a credit (fee, less a $165 book/service charge) can be applied to another CHMM course held within one year. Enrollment substitutions may be made at any time.

- A baccalaureate degree in a subject area related to hazardous materials management/engineering and three years of experience qualifies the candidate for Senior Level Certification
- A baccalaureate degree in science or engineering and seven or more years of appropriate experiences qualify the candidate for Master Level Certification
